Review: Where I End

Where I End by Michelle Dare
Published June 9, 2017

5 Ugly Cries

Synopsis:

Where I End is a standalone new adult romance.

Eve
Pretentious. Arrogant. Condescending. Cruel.
All words I'd used to label him. Exactly what I’d always believed he was. All that changed one spring morning when I realized I didn't know the man behind the facade at all.

Angry. Desperate. Broken. Mine.
All words I'd use to define him after I interfered. Once our eyes locked, I was all in. There was no turning back. He tried to push me away, but I refused to let him go. I was determined to save him. What I didn't expect was that he would save me, too.

Cy
I was so close to ending my misery. Mere seconds away. Then she stumbled upon our argument, and I changed my plans. She wasn't supposed to be there. She knew too much. Even with my entire world burning down around me, she wouldn't walk away.

I’ve always been on my own. No one had ever fought for me before. Why should anyone start now? But she did, no matter how much I tried to stop her. I knew I was nothing, unworthy of her, but she was persistent. Once she got under my skin, I couldn't let her go, because where I end, she begins.

Review:

First off before I go any further I want to give you the same trigger warnings the author provided me. This is not an easy read, it's emotional and raw as it deals with depression, suicide, rape, physical and mental abuse. If you are looking for comedy or a lighthearted read Where I End is definitely neither of those two things. If you are looking for a read that will tear you apart, break you down, and reduce you to ugly crying then welcome to my review of Where I End

During high school, Eve was endlessly bullied and ridiculed by Cy and his group of friends. Once high school is out Eve ends up working for Cy's mother as her assistant. Even with Eve at Cy's nearly every day, there is so much going on behind the scenes and in the past that she has no idea about. Until one fateful day forgetting all the pain Cy caused her in school she acts and saves Cy's life. Immediately quitting her job, Eve makes the decision to take Cy to safety and doesn't look back. Once the reality of the situation sets in Eve realizes she is dealing with something she isn't sure how to help with but with Cy so broken and alone she knows she will be by his side no matter the cost.

With years of pain and abuse in his past Cy thinks the only way to make his pain stop will be his death, what he doesn't count on is Eve taking his hand and saving him. Cy has never been sure how to handle his pain so for years he took all the pain he was living out on Eve and made her life in school a living hell. When he wants to die, he doesn't understand how she could ever forgive him for what he's done. Betrayed by everyone that was ever supposed to love and protect him, Cy doesn't think he will ever get better but Eve is stubborn and refuses to let him give up again. Even after suffering every horror imaginable will Cy find a way to come back to Eve, the only woman he's ever loved?

When dealing with such a hard and painful subject it's hard to say you "love" a book like this but I did love Cy and Eve's journey to find their way back to each other and I will explain why I did love it. Where I End does show after your entire world has crashed down around you there's still some hope that it will get better, that even when you are convinced there's nothing more to live for one moment can change your life and help you find your way to recovery, how even when you feel completely unlovable one person can be a ray of sunshine until you can find your way out of the darkness. I'm happy to give Where I End five stars because even with all the pain Cy suffered the message of hope shines through beautifully. Also personally, I commend Michelle Dare for having the courage to take on such a difficult topic.

Review: Wicked Bite

Wicked Bite by Rebecca Zanetti
Realm Enforcers Book 5

4 Mystical Stars Claws!

Synopsis:

If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

As she hunts for a drug lord killing her fellow witches, all Tessa Lansa’s instincts point to the Grizzly motorcycle club. That might be because their leader, Bear, is the strong, silent shifter type: warm brown eyes and more muscle and alpha male than any woman can ignore. Which makes Tessa’s plan to seduce and betray him all the more dangerous . . .

Bear doesn’t trust the curvy, blue-eyed witch. But Tessa can heal the injuries that sap his strength. And since he can’t stop thinking of her lush body and teasing smile, her plan to mate him to reclaim her own power is highly tempting. Just one problem. Once a desire this wild is loose, no one will ever control it . . (Goodreads)

Review:

This is my first read from Rebecca Zanetti but it won't be my last. Wicked Bite is part of the Realm Enforcers series but functions well as a standalone if like me you haven't read the other books in the series. I was only confused in a couple of parts but the author does a great job of explaining backstory from the other books in the series so I wasn't completely lost by any means.

Bear is the Alpha of the Grizzles, a shifter MC. As a result of his actions in a previous book Bear is dying from the inside out. He's loosing his strength and slowly he is loosing his life. Bear still has a lot to live for but there is little hope of curing what ails him except a strange witch who claims to have the ability to heal him. Nessa is a unique witch. She doesn't have the same abilities as other witches, her ability is one of a healer. However that ability has made her a target so she suggests a deal to Bear, she will heal him and give his life back to him if he will agree to mate with her. Untrusting of witches in general because of their many secrets, Bear must decide if he wants to live bad enough to trust the little witch.

Like all witches Nessa does have her secrets, she was sent undercover to discover if Bear's MC is dealing a drug that is killing witches. What she uncovers is a conspiracy that not only may tear Bear and Nessa apart but may cost her her life.

With a giant plot twist you probably won't see coming Rebecca Zanetti has earned a fan in me.

A Few Good Review(er)s

A Few Good Review(er)s
I didn’t start off in the book world writing, I started off reviewing. I didn’t think I had it in me to write and complete an entire novel, now I’m almost finished writing my second full novel, and starting on my third novella. But, writing takes time, and takes time away from my pride and joy that brought into contact with a lot of fangtastic authors.
I don’t want to keep letting the Gothic Mom's blog go downhill, but, I can’t keep doing it on my own either. I need more reviewers! If you have a passion for books with a dark touch I’d love to have you join my team, and feel free to bring a friend or two with you. There is no age requirement or restriction, there’s also no pay. But, you will have access to some great books! I only ask that whatever books requested from the list you leave a review within three weeks of receiving it. And feel free to leave a review on a book you’re already reading.
You do NOT have to write a perfect review, just one that shows how you truly feel about what you’ve read. Oh! There will be quarterly prizes for the most active reviewers. And any contest(s) posted on the blog everyone is free to enter.

And introducing my first new accomplice, Crystal Blood! Mrs. Blood is also one of my Demented Diva's!

I hope to be adding more names soon...
