Review -

While reading book 1 of the Nightlife Series I couldn't help but to crave more action and violence. Two of the main things I look for when reading any true vampire novel or novella. I was more than pleased with the depravity, blood violence and love mixed into to this addition to the series. First and foremost this book is definitely not for the faint of heart or anyone looking for just another Paranormal Romance in which is just basically nothing more than a Contemporary Romance with a few fangs mixed in. There is plenty of violence and definitely more than a little bit of gore.

In the first book to this series Michelle was more than dead set against the making of a bloodslave, whether accidental or on purpose. So much so that she was more than willing to destroy her lover and slave, Aaron, had he ever attempted to make another. Yet in walks Anatasia, a human with gypsie blood running through her veins, and just a touch of psychic ability. That touch being just enough to not only draw Aaron to her, but to also give him no other choice than to make her his, a bloodslave. While her initial reaction may have been to punish him, Michelle also feels the inexorable pull as he. As Ana is quickly pulled into their sordid fold and truly unpredictable love affair, enemies lurk within their grasp. Some wanting to kill them, others wanting to be them, other wanting no more than to screw them, but to the point of utter madness and willingness to kill.

They say whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but that may not be the case with this dynamic vampire duo. As Michelle is the one once again who believes that mere humans will never be a credible threat to them, she is once again proven wrong. This time having more than a few everlasting effects. Not only may she be forced to succumb to an even more dangerous addiction that that of bloodlust, but one in which is dangerous to humans, and even more drastically dangerous for a vampire developing in very dangerous, and more than a little deadly, consequences. But, she will have more than a little fun along the way. And poor Aaron will have to learn his lessons as most do, the heart breakingly way.

Full of erotically detailed sex, depravity, violence and all three wrapped together more often than not, as well as more than a little bit of love mixed in, The Nightlife Las Vegas is a truly great read. NOT for the faint of heart nor the unimaginative. Original is definitely the first word that comes to mind when describing the series of Nightlife.

Guest Post by Jeremy Bates
Top 5 Man vs. Environment Movies.

In Suicide Forest, a group of friends get lost in Suicide Forest—where they have to contend with the elements, among other things. Given the plot, I figured a post listing my top five man vs. environment movies would be appropriate. So here it goes:

1)      The Blair Witch Project
Yeah, I know. Some people are probably groaning at this choice. But this is one of the few movies that have genuinely freaked me out. This is due to the fact I watched it in the theater while I was teen working at some secluded resort. I hadn’t heard any hype about it, and I believed it was real found footage (as the found-footage genre was a novelty then). Later that night I had to cut across a dark golf course bordered by forests to return to my cottage—a truly freaky experience.

2)      Open Water
A couple go scuba diving. When they surface they discover their boat is gone, along with all the other scuba divers. Add to this scenario a lack of drinkable water, a lightning storm, and circling sharks, and you have yourself one hell of a nightmare.

3)      Wolf Creek
The Outback is big. Really big. I live there right now. You can drive for hours without seeing much of anything. Imagine being lost out there, chased by a crazy bloke with a knife that makes Crocodile Dundee’s look small. Scary, scary, scary.

4)      Frozen
No, not the Disney flick. This one’s about three friends who pay off a ski lift instructor to let them do one last ski run after closing hours. Unfortunately fort them, the ski lift shuts down while they’re halfway up the mountain. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say the freezing weather eventually drives them to make the decision to jump or not. A classic, What would you do in that situation?

5)      All Is Lost
Robert Redford’s a retired old guy plying the ocean on his small sailboat. Sounds nice, right? Well, when a storm knocks out his radio, and his boat springs a leak, it soon becomes a life or death battle against the elements. There are maybe five words of dialogue spoken throughout the entire film, so it might not be for everyone. But to tell you the truth, the story and acting was so engrossing I barely noticed.

Honorable mention: The Gray. The Reef. The Ruins. Wrecked

The Nightlife New York Review

The Nightlife New York by Travis Luedke
The Nightlife Book 1
Published August 18, 2012
4 Fangs

"At first, it seemed like just any other making of a vampire tale and I almost put it down. So glad I didn't."

Synopsis -

The Nightlife Series is violent, sexy, and occasionally violently sexy.

Vampires, strippers, escorts, night clubs, pimps and dirty cops – the Nightlife New York is never boring.

Aaron Pilan’s life is forever changed when he’s shot trying to rescue a drop-dead gorgeous woman on the streets of New York. Aaron is thrust into the shocking world of vampiric slavery when Michelle shares her blood to save his life.

Michelle's existence as a solitary vampire is also altered when she accepts this naive young man into her life. Bound by her blood, Aaron is subject to her authority. He walks a tightrope of strictly controlled feeding regiments and intense sexual adventures while catering to the neurotic control-freak tendencies of his new master. She vows to eliminate him if he proves too difficult to control.

This story is bold and evocative, infusing blood, sex, love and turmoil in an urban drama about two vampires battling evil outside and within themselves. (Goodreads)

Review -

Die hard Paranormal and Urban Fantasy fans have nine times out of ten read a million vampire novels centering around the creation and relationship between the vampire and their maker. When beginning this book readers of that sort may feel as though this is just another of those. Just. Keep. Reading. The Nightlife is in a league of its own, slow moving at first, but when the action begins it does not let up. The violence, the sex, the drama, the relationship between master and slave, all of it is a true work of art. The bombshell takes the term claiming her man to a whole new level in a beautifully gruesome, depraving, cruel, blood thirsty way that will give her message loud and clear in no uncertain terms.

Aaron Pilan is just your average Joe living his day to day life with no expectations of anything ever happening to change his monotone life; work, call from roommate, pick up beer, go home and be taunted by ex. All that changes when he leaves from work and sees a vision being harassed. What could have been the beginning of the end turns out to be the beginning of his brand new life, well, un-life. While his new existence does come with a lot of perks everything has a downside. Falling in love with his master and knowing how she truly feels being one. The fact that if she so chooses she can order him to do anything. When a person has that much power over you, barriers become truly thin. And when that type of power is abused, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, you begin to see everything in a whole new light. Some things not looking as beautiful as you once thought.

Michelle never planned to turn a human. Upon seeing how pure a soul the stranger attempting to come to her "rescue" was, no way could she allow him to die. Promising herself, and him, should he ever become uncontrollable, she would have no remorse in ending him. What she never considered is losing control over herself. Watching Aaron so closely to the point where she can no longer see herself, Michelle just may turn into the very thing she hates, and abuse her power over him to the point of no return. Another lesson she may learn the hard way is dismissing humans as being a non-threat. There is no greater threat than underestimating your enemy, a lesson that just may cost one of them their lives.

Though this novel would have even greater with more action, what action there is is well worth the wait. As with most firsts in a series is does move slow in the beginning, but the back story is needed to really understand these characters for not only this book, but for the rest that follow. Definitely not for the faint of heart, nor the blood shy or romance only reader. For those looking for violence, blood, sex and all three combined, this is the book for you. The Nightlife series is where the underdog goes from being a nobody, to victim, to predator. And it is a beautifully, bloody transition all blood thirsty readers are sure to love.

Excerpt – You Haven’t Been Feeding Your Pet

Michelle struggled not to fall on her face in her Gucci boots as she slogged through the frozen streets of Moscow behind Aaron and Urvashi. The icy wind blew flakes of snow up her skirt and tickled her inner thighs with harsh, cold fingers. They stood out front of the hotel, waiting for Vasily to bring the black Mercedes rental Michelle had paid for.

No one in Russia knew Michelle by name. So, she signed all the checks and registrations, keeping the paper trail of their movements effectively obscured. Michelle de Mornac funded their entire hideout. She could afford it, but the pack insisted on reimbursing her costs. She’d be willing to pay the bill on her own if they’d let her feed properly. The bouffon wolves wouldn’t let her out in public.

Last week, Ivan had argued vehemently to keep Michelle indoors at all times, apart from check-in and check-out. “She attracts too much attention! Look at her! She walks in the room and every prick from here to Siberia is pointing at her.” He’d adjusted the lump in his crotch as evidence of the fact. “How can you not notice her?” The wolves laughed and all agreed in their heavy Slavic accents. No, no, Michelle cannot go out.

Yet, here she stood, freezing her ass off, waiting for the wolves to bring the fucking car. She noticed Aaron and Urvashi watched the streets, nervously looking back over their shoulders as if seeking someone. Who did they expect to find out in this frozen cesspool of slush and grime? Something had kicked up their paranoia.

After untold minutes frozen shivering torture, finally the damned wolves brought the rental Mercedes SUV to the curb. The car splashed frozen brown mush over the toes of her twelve-hundred dollar leather boots. Vasily and Anatoly, wolf pack mercenaries, stepped out to snatch up the luggage. As bags were tossed in the hatchback and everyone jockeyed for a seat, Michelle realized she had nowhere to sit in this merde rental car. Ivan leaned back into the last seat so fast you’d have thought they played musical chairs.

Conasse.

He grinned at Michelle as he patted his thigh. “Sit here.”

They should have rented a bus.

She growled low. “Lèche mon cul.” Kiss my ass. “I will take a cab.”

Ivan reached out and snagged the hem of her jacket to pull her into the car. He puckered his lips, as if he planned to accommodate her request. “There is room. I will keep you warm.” The last of his words devolved into a growl. His eyes twinkled in mischief.

Michelle didn’t wait another second out in the cold. She slid right onto Ivan’s lap and wiggled her ass down until her crotch settled on the growing lump in his pants.

Served the bastard right.

Anatoly pulled off into the flow of traffic, and turned the radio to one of the many obnoxious Russian rap stations. She leaned back into Ivan’s broad chest. He vibrated against her with the low rumble of his laughter. The scent of his animal musk assaulted Michelle’s senses. Full-size fangs dropped in her mouth and her stomach issued a gut-churning noise. She should have been satisfied feeding from the men in the bar, but something about Ivan made her especially thirsty. These wolves tasted delightful.

Urvashi leaned into Aaron with a kiss and whispered low. “You haven’t been feeding your pet.” Urvashi winked at Michelle and rubbed her lips up on Aaron’s cheek. “She looks like she could take a chunk out of poor Ivan right now.”

Ivan’s hands suddenly held Michelle’s hips, as though preparing for something. “You don’t want this old white meat. Too tough and gamey.” He was teasing, but his voice held an edge of tension. The wolves all knew what Aaron had done to Katya, a much-lamented issue among them.

Michelle focused all her considerable charms on Ivan, twisting to face him, nose to nose. Mon deux, he smelled so good. All that warm blood just beneath the surface. His animal tang only added to her hunger. She’d tasted Katya and knew precisely how delicious these creatures were. Before he knew what was happening she had slid up her skirt and flipped around to straddle his lap. The hard bulge of his cock pushed against her pubic bone as she sniffed up his jaw line.

“Michelle, this is not …”

Her eyes held him in place, unblinking, and she curved her warm pussy all over his hard groin in a slow circular movement that had his eyes turning golden with wolf. The creature was there, just beneath the surface, and flowing through his veins.

A reaching hand came from the front seat, trying to grab her jacket. “Leave him be!”

Michelle slinked off her coat to evade Katya’s grasp without breaking Ivan’s gaze. “You like me, Ivan, don’t you?” She whispered a kiss across his lips and continued dry-fucking him. “One little bite won’t hurt. You trust me, don’t you?”

Ivan’s head nodded ever so slightly in hypnotized agreement, and she struck the side of his neck like a viper.

“Fucking cunt! Get off him!” Katya went ballistic in the front seat.

Michelle reached down and clicked the lever to lean Ivan’s seat back out of Katya’s reach. Scuffling sounds and curses came from Katya scrambling to get between the front seats into the back.

Aaron’s low growl accompanied his snapped command. “Relax! She’s not hurting him. Trust me!” His arm shot out to stop Katya from climbing in the back.

Michelle wasn’t hurting Ivan, not really. She did grind through a dry hump until he convulsed beneath her, and the warmth of his seed wet his pants. She let go of him after precisely one minute of feeding. That was her rule. One minute, no more. The rule kept her conveniently unattached and helped avoid stalker problems.

She turned around to Katya, patted Ivan’s scruffy cheek and grinned with her bloody lips. “C’est bien. I take good care of this one. Don’t worry. We are friends, non?” She ground her hips on him once more, appreciating the warmth of Ivan’s sizeable crotch. “We had a little fun. Ça ne casse rien.” It is nothing.

Anatoly’s amber wolf eyes watched Michelle from the rear-view mirror, his hands in a white-knuckle grip on the steering wheel. “If you hurt him, I will cut you from cunt to chest and leave your guts across the rooftops of Moscow.”

Michelle blew him a kiss and licked the rest of Ivan’s blood off her lips. “I hope you try. I’m still hungry.”

“I’m fine! Stop fighting.” Ivan’s hand gripped Michelle’s ass firmly and he grinned with eyes fully dilated, high as a kite on her venom.

Michelle held her prey delicately, appreciatively. She knew how to handle these moments. She knew what men needed from her and had no problem giving it. Men couldn’t keep away from her. They flocked to her side everywhere she went. Once they had a shot of the venom in her teeth, she owned their asses. She took great pains to ensure the effect was not permanent.

Aaron watched her cautiously. Though he’d had no choice when he saved Katya, Michelle wished he hadn’t brought another complicated woman into their lives. It was bad enough dealing with the damned Persian princess who thought she ran the show. Add Katya in the mix, and their lives had become a mess of bitchy drama scenes, usually related to the wolf who refused to accept the harsh reality of her situation.

Her moment with Ivan came to an abrupt end when the left side window exploded in her face. A barrage of automatic gunfire tore through the car. Bullets, glass, screams and frigid air blasted across the interior. Something smacked her left shoulder hard, and seconds later something hammered into the left side of her head.

Ivan pulled her down on top of him, cursing in Russian, right up to the moment she blacked out.

Excerpt From Book 1
Wicked Winds

She stared at him. The warm night air stuck to her skin, pressing in on her, making it hard to breathe. All their lives, she and her sisters had kept their gifts to themselves, feeling like they were freaks of nature. Were there others like them in the world? Could she trust Gunnar? She had met him barely an hour ago. He could be a lunatic. Regret and shame slammed into her. Why did I act like that in the club? Had he put some kind of spell on her? She certainly didn’t make a habit of public make-out sessions. She swallowed hard. “What are you?”

“Ah-ah, ladies first, Nicole. But I’ll give you a small hint.”

He lifted his hand. A tiny orange light popped into the air, dancing in the center of his upturned palm. The light grew bigger, until it was the size of an apple. It glowed and bobbed slightly, then went out as quickly as it had appeared.

She didn’t even care that her mouth was hanging open. “What was that?”

“Demonfire.”

“D-demon…fire?”

“It’s a useful weapon.”

“For who?”

“Well, it’s particularly effective on the lesser demons, but–”

“What are you talking about?” she yelled. “You just made fire appear in your hand! And you’re not hurt!”

“I created it. It won’t hurt me.”

“Okaaay. That was a very cool magic trick.” She edged backward.

He was at her side in a flash. “Uh-uh.”

“Gunnar, you’re scaring me.”

“I told you I won’t hurt you. And from what I’ve seen, you’re not entirely defenseless.”

Completely unnerved, Nicole’s legs shook. She felt like she had just fallen down the rabbit hole, and there was no climbing back up. Ever. She didn’t know if it was real or not, but Gunnar made fire appear in his hand. She instinctively knew that if he wanted to, he could truly hurt her. The rip-her-to pieces kind of hurt. She had already tried to fight him, with no success—now it was time for flight.

Whirling, she ran in the direction of the club. She managed to get all of ten feet from him when he grabbed her around the waist and twisted them both in mid-air. They hit the ground. He absorbed most of the impact himself, then rolled and pinned her beneath him.

Seconds stretched out as he studied her. He relaxed his hold on her a fraction, but she still couldn’t move under his massive bulk. “Nicole,” he said softly. “There are many things I want to do to you, but hurting you is not on the list.”

She sucked in a breath at his bold statement. I don’t want to die here, like this, with a fire-conjuring madman. Fighting hadn’t worked. Flight hadn’t worked. She didn’t want to end up dead in the park, so that left her with two options—distract him or start talking.

She gazed up at him with wary eyes. He was so handsome. A lock of dark hair fell over his forehead, and his lips looked way too kissable. Dangerous. She clenched her teeth and shoved the jumble of thoughts from her mind, disgusted with herself. He had her trapped, pinned on the ground, for heaven’s sake. She had to figure out a way to get away from him, not closer to him, like her traitorous body wanted.
